Embodying Philosophy

The order of the Elefant and Augusta Retreats

Embodying Philosophy

Performance, movement & multimedia Retreat

2st august – 9th august 2019

Catalonia, Spain

How does the post-postmodern being relate to environment, nature and people. What does it mean to be savage vs. being civil? When does the bizarre become usual and vice versa? How are thought and movement programmed and de-programmed?

With the Embodying Philosophy workshop participants are invited to explore issues of the post-post-modern being in relation to the environment, nature and “the other.”

The workshop aims to give the participants the tools to deconstruct the subconscious architecture of marketed ideologies and overcome patterned behaviour that influence our collective and individual actions.

Students will be guided through: methods of dance, movement, cathartic massage, video, words and sound to uncover information stored in our muscles and programmed in our language. In addition we will be conceptualizing these actions and ideas through small multimedia productions throughout the stay.

Inspirations and techniques are drawn from: Body-SDS, Jung, MK-Ultra, Dada-ism, Walter Benjamin, Christoph Schlingensief and underground culture.

The Sessions

The movement session Are conducted by Yaa Aisin. They Are inspired by Somatic Experiencing as a way to explore transformation/transition, the liminal space and the ritualistic. The approach is activating the autonomous body by reconnecting to our underlying tacit knowledge.

Some of the Movement workshops are:

– Excess Movement: exploring the abstract, absurd, ugly forbidden, beautiful and magical.

– Endurance Dance: “Dance till you drop” – Rave vibes.

– In between – focusing on flow, impulse, the dialectic within, stillness and our environment .

Furthermore every participant will receive an individual session With Aisin which includes creative coaching and a cathartic massage.

There will be collaborative music improvisation sessions hosted by Brandon Davis. These sessions will focus on spontaneous programming using acoustic and electronic instruments. No pre-existing musical conditioning necessary.

The movement and music sessions will sometimes be combined to allow for further exploration of these ideas and practices.

Throughout the week we will be collecting sound and images from the various activities. As a group we will weave these elements together in a da-da-esque video workshop hosted by Brandon Davis.

Other sessions are:

– DIY-Sculpturing – listening and playing with Nature

– Moonlight Walk & Ritual

– Group reflections and talks

Some sessions will be inside and some outside in nature.

Everyday there will be time for the participants to spend on there own practice.

Aisin has worked as a performance artist throughout 13 years as well as an educated body-therapist since 2014. From this she is operating in the intersection of art, philosophy & health – nurturing our sense of belonging to this world with all its complexities and redefining paths of sensibility. She is currently operating in Copenhagen, DK.
